How to add an MCP server to Cursor

1. Open the server's listing here and use Add to Cursor, or copy its Cursor snippet.
2. If you copied it, paste the entry under mcpServers in ~/.cursor/mcp.json (all projects) or .cursor/mcp.json (this project only).
3. Open Cursor Settings, find the MCP section, and check the server shows as connected with its tools listed. The agent can use it from then on.

Before you connect one

• Every enabled server's tools count against what the agent sees on each request. Turn off servers you are not using in a project.
• A project .cursor/mcp.json runs on every teammate's machine. Review it like any other code you commit.
• Check the server's safety report first: which tools write, whether a remote endpoint needs auth, and what a package runs when it installs. What the scan checks.

How do I add an MCP server to Cursor?

Add it under mcpServers in ~/.cursor/mcp.json or .cursor/mcp.json, or use an Add to Cursor link. Then check it in Cursor Settings, in the MCP section.

Where is Cursor's MCP config file?

~/.cursor/mcp.json for every project, and .cursor/mcp.json inside a project for that project only.

Why does my MCP server not show up in Cursor?

Check the JSON is valid, that the command runs in your terminal (for example npx needs Node), and restart the server from the MCP section of Cursor Settings.
