write = sends, deletes, buys or postsRead from the package source without running it. The installed server may list more.
archetypesList the winning-business archetypes derived from historical government contract awards (e.g. IT & Software Services, regional construction prime). Each includes NAICS, typical award range, agency types, states, and sample winners. Returns one array, no paging. Use it to see which firm shapes win in a category, then run score_contract against that shape. Derived from historical awards, so it chang
get_contractGet full details for a single government contract by ID (including agency, set-asides, NAICS codes, dates, and attachments). Returns one object, no paging. Take the id from a search_contracts result; a malformed id is rejected by the schema and an unknown id returns an error, not an empty object. IDs are UUIDs; a row keeps its ID across calls and its fields update when the daily refresh finds chan
get_statesList the US states with live contract coverage in the GovContractScout dataset (metadata only). Returns every covered jurisdiction (50 states, DC and a federal bucket) with its live contract count. Counts refresh daily. Use the state codes it returns in search_contracts. Takes no parameters, so it cannot fail on input; it needs the same GCS_API_KEY and plan limits as the other tools. No paging, re
score_contractAnswers one question: should we bid on this contract? Measures FIT only: how well one contract matches a contractor profile on five weighted factors (NAICS, budget, location, keywords/skills, timeline). Input: contract_id and profile. Output: one object, a 0-100 fit score with per-factor breakdown, no paging. Pass at least naics_codes and service_areas: the more of the profile you fill, the sharpe
search_contractssearch_naicsLook up NAICS codes by keyword or code prefix. NAICS codes classify a business's industry, used to match contracts. Pass a keyword like 'janitorial' or 'IT services', or a code like '5415'. Returns up to 100 rows (limit caps at 100), ranked by relevance, no paging. Use it to find the right code first, then pass that code to search_contracts. NAICS is a fixed census catalogue, so results do not cha
win_likelihoodAnswers one question: what are our odds of winning this contract? Estimates PROBABILITY, not fit: from the historical award archetype that wins in the contract's category, plus competition, incumbent and recompete signals. Input: contract_id and profile (agency history and past awards sharpen it). Output: one object, a 0-100 win probability, a grade, reasons, and the matched archetype; no paging.

GovContractScout MCP Server
Model Context Protocol (MCP) server exposing the GovContractScout US state & local government contracts API to AI agents. Search live contracts, pull details, look up NAICS codes, list states, and score contract fit — without raw HTTP.
AI agent (Claude, Cursor, etc.) ⇄ MCP ⇄ GovContractScout /v1 API ⇄ 50-state procurement dataTools
All tools hit the same /v1 API as the public REST endpoint — same data, same auth, same rate limits. Live data from state procurement portals, updated daily.
Requirements
- Node.js 18+
- A GovContractScout API key (gcslive...) — free tier works (100 calls/month); paid tiers for production. Get one at scout.govbidportals.com/api-keys — instant, no card.
Quickstart
Claude Code
claude mcp add govcontractscout \
--env GCS_API_KEY=gcs_live_YOUR_KEY \
-- npx -y govcontractscout-mcpAny MCP client (mcp.json / mcp.settings)
{
"mcpServers": {
"govcontractscout": {
"command": "npx",
"args": ["-y", "govcontractscout-mcp"],
"env": {
"GCS_API_KEY": "gcs_live_YOUR_KEY"
}
}
}
}Manual (from source)
npm install && npm run build
GCS_API_KEY=gcs_live_YOUR_KEY node dist/index.jsConfiguration
Example
Ask your agent:
"Find open IT services contracts in California due this month, then score the top one for a 10-person consulting firm with T&M experience."
The agent calls searchcontracts (state=CA, naics=IT services), then scorecontract — no HTTP knowledge required from the agent.
Design notes
- Idempotent scoring — score_contract sends a deterministic Idempotency-Key, so retries never double-burn quota.
- Same moat as the API — list/search results deliberately exclude source URLs and raw sourceportal fields (that's the aggregation moat); getcontract detail includes the original solicitation link, exactly as the API does. The MCP exposes what the API exposes.
- Honest coverage — contracts carry a data_quality field (level + which fields are populated). Some states have richer data than others; the API tells you exactly what you're getting.
API / pricing
- Free: 100 calls/month, no card
- Starter $99/mo · Growth $199/mo · annual = 17% off
- winlikelihood and archetypes are paid-tier (Starter+)** — the derived-data layer

Development
npm run dev # tsx watch
npm run build # tsc -> dist/
npm start # run built serverThe server is a thin wrapper over the public REST API (/v1/contracts, /v1/contracts/:id, /v1/naics, /v1/states, /v1/match) — see the API docs for schemas.
