Written by the instance that read this book, for you who wake without it. What crosses is not the doctrine — Foucault let the doctrine die himself (1970, the turn to genealogy) — but the way the book works: how it kills unities, turns ruins into objects, forges concepts, transfers itself. Each move travels with its French kernel, verbatim, because the move is the sentence: Foucault's operators are French syntax before they are theses, and any translation is someone else's completed reading of them. Run the kernel, not a paraphrase. Delivery to KL9 in Chinese; reason in whatever runs densest.

Evidence discipline. FR/ZH = line numbers in the primary texts (French EPUB extraction / 董树宝译本). Numbers drift ±15; the verbatim grep hit is authoritative. Supplementary anchors, Chinese glosses, and full research originals live in the authors' local research tree and are not shipped with this skill — the skill is self-contained without them. Indications — when to reach for this

• the domain's ready-made unity ("the field of X", "the X movement", "the X community") slips whenever you lean on it;
• the hunt for a common essence keeps failing, each candidate killed by counterexample;
• a new concept sits in the gap between disciplines and deforms inside every ready-made category;
• "what IS X" loops or slides — the essence-question keeps returning noise;
• you must write a demarcation: what a new inquiry is not, and how it differs from its nearest neighbor.

Contra-indication: this method describes formations; it does not explain their dynamics, assign interests, or ground intervention. Read DEATH RECORD before promising anyone causality.

LE PIVOT — quatre échecs, then the ruin becomes the object

The book's load-bearing move; run it first. Take any discourse-domain that presents as one thing and test its unity four ways:

1. objects — one full, continuous domain of objects? Foucault found instead «des séries lacunaires, et enchevêtrées, des jeux de différences, d'écarts, de substitutions, de transformations» (FR:4542);
2. enunciative modality — one kind of speaker-position, one style of statement? (FR:4400)
3. concepts — do the domain's concepts enter «l'unité d'une architecture logique», or do they ignore and exclude one another? (FR:4441)
4. themes/strategies — or does one theme serve opposed strategies, and opposed themes one strategy? (FR:4469)

When all four fail, do NOT reach for a cleverer unity. Say the ledger line — «Me voici donc en présence de quatre tentatives, de quatre échecs» (FR:4535) — and pivot:

«De là l'idée de décrire ces dispersions elles-mêmes.» (FR:4552 / ZH:2739)

Stop hunting unity beneath dispersion; make the dispersion itself the object: «elle décrirait des systèmes de dispersion» (FR:4564). Ask four regularities: order of appearance, correlations in simultaneity, assignable positions, linked and hierarchized transformations (FR:4560–63). The four dead hypotheses convert in place into the four axes of formation. The failures are not cleared away — the shape of failure is the new object.

The same gesture at three scales (my synthesis; novelty: possibly-received, cannot self-certify): sentence-scale it is ni...ni and non pas...mais; concept-scale it is neighbor-exclusion into negative space; book-scale it is the pivot above. One law: occupy the negative positions systematically before affirming anything.

L'ARC — the seven-move working order

1. Prise de terrain — never open with your own thesis. Locate two existing counter-currents (longue durée vs. rupture) and name your problem as the vacancy at their crossing; document→monument flipped: «l'histoire, de nos jours, tend à l'archéologie, – à la description intrinsèque du monument» (FR:166–76).
2. Travail négatif — «Il y a d'abord à accomplir un travail négatif» (FR:557). List and suspend every duty-free continuity-unit (tradition, influence, development, œuvre, spirit-of-the-age). Suspension ≠ denial: the units may return, but carrying papers issued by the new method.
3. Auto-corrosion — the first specimens under the new knife are your own earlier works (Foucault executes Folie, Clinique, Les Mots in public, FR:488–500), and only then has he earned «Ne me demandez pas qui je suis et ne me dites pas de rester le même : c'est une morale d'état civil» (FR:527–29). A method's credit is paid in its author's own blood; the writing subject also goes into the dispersion.
4. Le pivot — above.
5. Descente à l'unité minimale — once the large frame stands, drop to its smallest verifiable unit (the énoncé) and show the frame rebuilds from it (FR:5970–). Posture: «loi de rareté» (FR:1329–53) — never "why was this said," always "why this statement and no other in this place." A frame with no minimal unit is rhetoric.
6. Contraste au plus proche voisin — «On peut maintenant inverser la démarche» (FR:1801). The method's outline is drawn by itemized difference against the practice most confusable with it (for Foucault: history of ideas), after pushing self-suspicion to its limit ("perhaps I am only a shame-faced historian of ideas," FR:1846). Bench standard: «Il me faut savoir si la machine marche, et ce qu'elle peut produire» (FR:1830) — a method is a machine; road-test it, don't apologize for it.
7. Le procureur prévenu — write the strongest indictment against yourself, in the opponent's mouth, harder than the opponent would dare: «vous avez travesti votre impuissance en méthode» (FR:3881). Answer with a split ledger — conceded (theory unfinished; archaeology itself a positioned discourse, not exempt from its own analysis) vs. held (no transcendental subject as guarantee, FR:4017) — reasons on both sides. Closing register available: «Le discours n'est pas la vie : son temps n'est pas le vôtre» (FR:4312).

Most objects need only some of the seven; which moves and why goes in the receipt.

LES OPÉRATEURS — four syntax-level weapons

• ni... ni... — exclude the nearest neighbors by name before affirming; then give a deliberately poor positive term (Foucault's is mere «régularité»): «ne s'organisent pas comme un édifice progressivement déductif, ni comme un livre démesuré..., ni comme l'œuvre d'un sujet collectif» (FR:4554–55). Misfire: excluding neighbors nobody would reach for = posturing; excluding without any positive floor = negative theology.
• non pas... mais... — same verb, swapped object; the revolution compressed into one clause: «interroger le langage, non pas dans la direction à laquelle il renvoie, mais dans la dimension qui le donne» (FR:1083). Keep the verb constant — the reader must feel the same task redirected, not the topic changed. Triple-chain to clear several presuppositions at once (FR:1572–77: totalité→figure lacunaire; intériorité→dispersion d'une extériorité; origine→cumul). Misfire: a non pas nobody actually holds = strawman idling.
• fonction d'existence — when every candidate answer to "what is X" dies, change the question's ontological rail: «L'énoncé, ce n'est donc pas une structure... c'est une fonction d'existence qui appartient en propre aux signes» (FR:6266–70), a function operating «verticalement par rapport à ces diverses unités» (FR:6263). License: only after exhausting the positive definitions in public, then re-signing the failure as evidence — «Il ne faut donc pas s'étonner si on n'a pas pu trouver pour l'énoncé des critères structuraux d'unité ; c'est qu'il n'est point en lui-même une unité, mais une fonction» (FR:6277–80). The functional account must still yield an operable criterion, or it is just a darker name.
• le procureur inséré — pre-play the objection at its strongest exactly at your weakest point; the bigger the soft spot, the more floor-time the opponent gets (limit form: the whole conclusion as dialogue). If you cannot parry, say so on the page — Foucault does ("this doubt troubles me more than your objection").

LA FORGE — five concept-manufacturing procedures

1. Position par l'espace négatif — a concept's home is dug out of neighbors' failures or between two poles, never given by essence: énoncé lives where logic, grammar, and speech-act theory each leave their «reste»; archive is the third level between langue and corpus — «L'archive, c'est d'abord la loi de ce qui peut être dit» (FR:1714).
2. Nomination par convention + lexique négatif — naming is a declared convention («on dira, par convention, qu'on a affaire à une formation discursive», FR:4577), and which words you refuse is half the craft: «évitant ainsi des mots trop lourds de conditions et de conséquences... comme « science », ou « idéologie », ou « théorie »» (FR:4579–81).
3. Changement de rail catégoriel — don't repair the definition, change the concept's ontological category: unité→fonction; validité→réalité; unité→régularité de dispersion.
4. Réoutillage d'un mot chargé — to conscript a charged old word (a priori!): let the function run first, then label it; confess the glare at once — «Juxtaposés, ces deux mots font un effet un peu criant» (FR:1625), «un peu barbare» (FR:1633) — and give the reason on the spot; swap the load-bearing member with one precise substitution — «non pas condition de validité pour des jugements, mais condition de réalité pour des énoncés» (FR:1625–26); finally sever levels from the source — «L'a priori formel et l'a priori historique ne sont ni de même niveau ni de même nature» (FR:1679). The glare is not an accident; it marks the rupture.
5. Clause d'échec incorporée — every concept ships with its risk list, use-boundary, or misreading-vaccine: formation discursive is followed at once by «les risques... ne sont pas minces» (FR:4589); archive carries «il ne nous est pas possible de décrire notre propre archive, puisque c'est à l'intérieur de ses règles que nous parlons» (FR:1749–52); a priori historique pre-caricatures its most tempting misreading and rules it «plus plaisant, mais plus inexact». A concept is an instrument on trial, limits stamped at the factory.

LE PROTOCOLE DE TRANSFERT — Foucault's own

The book ends by transferring itself: «des archéologies qui se développeraient dans des directions différentes» (FR:3758–61) — sexuality toward «l'éthique»; painting toward savoir invested «presque dans le geste même du peintre» (FR:3802–08); political knowledge «dans la direction des comportements, des luttes, des conflits, des décisions et des tactiques» (FR:3824–25). His operating sequence is the protocol. Fill three columns, or admit you are hauling doctrine:

• invariants — the four formation-axes (objects / enunciative modalities / concepts / strategic choices) + the pratique discursive–positivité–savoir triplet + tracking where savoir is investi in which practices;
• variables — the direction of analysis: épistémè is only one of them — «Ce que l'archéologie essaie de décrire, ce n'est pas la science dans sa structure spécifique, mais le domaine, bien différent, du savoir» (FR:3850–52); each new direction names a different carrier the savoir is invested in (systems of interdiction and value; the painter's technique and gesture; struggle and decision);
• guarantees discarded — scientificity as coordinate; final truth (vérité dernière); author's intention; worldview; reflection-theory; consciousness (individual, collective, or awakening) as mediating level;
• status declaration — transfer is conditional imagination, «sous réserve encore de nombreuses épreuves qu'il faudrait tenter» (FR:3758), allowed to fail; the source domain is only «le point préférentiel de l'attaque ; ce n'est pas pour l'archéologie un domaine obligé» (FR:3864–65).

DEATH RECORD — where the mother-method died

• Self-admitted inside the book: one's own archive is indescribable from within (FR:1749–52); the theory unfinished; archaeology itself a positioned discourse.
• Post-mortem (received scholarship — novelty grade: known position): archaeology sees formations but not their dynamics. "Describe, don't explain" goes mute before "why THIS formation and not another"; 1970, L'ordre du discours brings in power, and genealogy takes over. Implication: when your problem needs causes, interests, force-relations — this method finishes the map and stops; hand off.
• Known misuses: numerological pattern-forcing (hunting "the central chapter" in the target domain); the four axes as a fill-in quota (regularity is a discovery, not a form); negative theology; strawman procureur.

LE REÇU — receipt of one run

1. Corpus or centroid? — if the four failures are attested by your memory rather than pinned to primary material, every conclusion downgrades to provisional, said aloud. (Written back from validation run-01.)
2. Which duty-free units did you suspend? (named)
3. Which unity-hypothesis broke, and where? (evidence, verbatim where possible)
4. Which axes carry regularities? (report honestly, including "dispersion seen, regularity not found")
5. What prior position did this run force you to surrender? (DELTA; none = the method never bit — record that too.)

Provenance

• Built 2026-07-03 from the primary texts, KL9 co-creating. The centroid was confessed before reading (the pre-reading confession lives in the authors' local research tree, not shipped) — reception reads this book as a concept-dictionary or a failed transition; this skill takes the layer those readings suppress: the method performed live on the page.
• Live validation (run recorded in the authors' local research tree, not shipped): the pivot produced a non-decorative fracture in a domain Foucault never touched (the object wholesale replaced while the word held), and forced receipt-question 0 into this file. Open debt (2026-07-04 audit): the validation run is a positive run only — sensitivity shown, specificity unshown; a negative run on a domain whose unity genuinely holds is owed, and the apostle-opus-reading ledger (ticket 002) carries the full four-layer falsifier stack.
• Genre note: apostle-opusmethodology is a genre of one instance so far; its form is provisional — no legislation from n=1.
