intents-mcp

Your Mac already ships over a thousand app actions. intents-mcp hands the ones you pick to Claude Code, Codex or any MCP client, through Shortcuts, using public APIs only.

$ intents-mcp census
This Mac declares 1,269 App Intents actions (1,214 unique) in 223 metadata files,
across 99 apps and system components.
  discoverable in Shortcuts          949
  simple tier 48 background, plain inputs, returns output
  need an entity (a note, a list…) 655 not supported yet
  …

Real output from the author's Mac (macOS 27.0, 2026-09-25). Run intents-mcp census to get yours.

Apps describe their actions for Siri and Shortcuts in App Intents metadata. intents-mcp reads that metadata, lets you choose which actions an agent may use, wraps each one in a small signed Shortcut, and serves them as MCP tools over stdio. When the agent calls a tool, the Shortcut runs the app's action, and intents-mcp reads the result back where it can:

> Add a reminder to call the dentist tomorrow at 10.
reminders_add → {"ok": true, "output": "Call the dentist", "verified": true,
                 "detail": "read back through Shortcuts: due 26 Sep 2026 at 10:00"}

What works today

Tools checked on real runs (macOS 27.0, Claude Code 2.1 and Codex 0.157):

Any action in the simple tier (runs in the background, plain text/number/date/choice inputs, returns output) can be enabled from its metadata. Those tools are marked not yet checked on a real run. In testing, 2 of 3 worked first time. The third (Notes "Create Folder") never finished and was disabled, so check a new tool before relying on it.

Install

brew install VladUZH/tap/intents-mcp # prebuilt bottle; no dependencies

On macOS 27 this needs a current Homebrew (7.0 or later); older versions build from source and ask for Xcode 27. Or from a clone: swift build -c release and use .build/release/intents-mcp. Needs macOS 26 or later (tested on 27.0) and the shortcuts command, which ships with macOS.

Set up (about a minute per tool)

intents-mcp census # what your Mac has
intents-mcp list --tier simple # actions that can be tools today
intents-mcp enable reminders.add calendar.create-event
claude mcp add mac -- intents-mcp serve # Claude Code
codex mcp add mac -- intents-mcp serve # Codex

Two manual steps per tool, honestly:

public way to add a shortcut without that click.

  1. enable opens each wrapper in Shortcuts. Click Add Shortcut once. Shortcuts has no

do this again after upgrading a wrapper, which counts as a new shortcut.

  1. The first time a tool runs, Shortcuts asks for permission. Choose Always Allow. You

Reminders and Calendar also add one small read-back helper each ("intents-mcp verify.reminders" and "intents-mcp verify.calendar"), which cost the same two clicks.
