Clipswarm tools (12, 5 write)

write = sends, deletes, buys or posts

Read from the package source without running it. The installed server may list more.

  • create_clipswrite action

Cut one or more clips from YouTube videos (including streams that are live right now) in parallel. Only the requested sections are downloaded. Jobs can span different videos. Returns a result per job; failures don't abort the batch. Live results include the wall-clock range covered. Viral clips take ~15-60s each; if the batch isn't done within waitSec, you get finished results plus a jobId: call g

  • create_watchwrite action

Watch a category: on a schedule, search YouTube for new videos about it and auto-clip the best moments into viral shorts (moments and hooks picked by the local Claude Code CLI if installed, else YouTube's most-replayed peaks, else a transcript heuristic). Anything it can't clip (and live streams, if enabled) goes to the inbox for you. Replaces a watch with the same id. Runs via the background sche

  • delete_watchwrite action

    Stop and remove a watch.

  • get_clips

Get results of a create_clips batch that was still running (create_clips returns a jobId when it doesn't finish within waitSec). Waits up to waitSec for more clips to finish. Call repeatedly until pending is 0.

  • get_inbox

Videos found by watches. "clipped" = auto-clipped (paths in clips; note says how moments were picked). "needs_agent" = couldn't be clipped automatically: read the transcript, pick moments, call create_clips, then mark it "done". "live" = streaming now. "failed" = see note.

  • get_transcript

Get the timestamped transcript of a YouTube video. Optionally limit to a time window to keep output small. Read it to decide which moments to clip.

  • get_video_info

Get a YouTube video's title, channel, duration, chapters and liveStatus ("is_live" means it's streaming now: clip it with times relative to "now"). Use chapters to find natural clip boundaries.

  • list_watches

List watches with their schedule, last and next run, plus scheduler status.

  • run_watchwrite action

Run a watch right now instead of waiting for its schedule. Runs in the background (searching and rendering takes minutes); check get_inbox afterwards.

  • search_transcript

Find where a phrase is said in a YouTube video. Returns time windows with surrounding text, ready to pass to create_clips.

  • update_inbox_itemwrite action

Mark an inbox video as handled ("done") or not worth clipping ("dismissed").

  • watch_scheduler

Status, install or uninstall the background job that runs due watches every 5 minutes (launchd on macOS; returns a crontab line elsewhere). Install only when the user wants watches to run automatically.

clipswarm

Open-source, agent-native video clipping. Point any number of AI agents at YouTube videos or live streams, and get ready-to-post viral shorts back: 9:16, a hook header, and word-by-word captions. Runs on your machine, with no API keys and no subscription.

Made with one command: clipswarm clip https://youtu.be/75-H-i9ctkE 6 14.4 --viral --title "Astronauts celebrate July 4th from 250 miles up"Footage: NASA (public domain). No endorsement implied.

Why clipswarm

OpusClip-style apps decide for you what's "viral". clipswarm gives your agent the tools to decide, then does the production work:

  • Viral format built in: 1080×1920, a hook header card, the whole video frame (never cropped or zoomed), and animated captions that highlight each word as it's spoken. The layout adapts to the source's shape.
  • YouTube videos and live streams: clip what just happened on a live stream (start: -60, end: "now"), or what aired at 8:41pm.
  • Captions from real word timings: YouTube's auto-captions for regular videos, and local whisper.cpp for live streams. Free and offline.
  • Runs on autopilot: give it a category and a schedule ("netflix stock, every 6h"), and it finds new videos, has AI pick the moments and write the hooks, and renders the clips in the background.
  • Built for swarms: dozens of parallel jobs across many videos and many simultaneous agents, all through one shared queue. Transcripts are fetched once per video, and one bad job never sinks a batch.
  • Fast and frugal: downloads only the seconds you clip (not the whole 3-hour stream), and uses hardware encoding on macOS.
  • Works with any ffmpeg: text is rendered by clipswarm itself, so stock builds without drawtext/libass (e.g. Homebrew's) work fine.

Install

1. Dependencies (Node 20+):

brew install yt-dlp ffmpeg whisper-cpp # macOS
# Linux: pip install -U yt-dlp && sudo apt install ffmpeg (+ whisper.cpp for live captions)
npx -y clipswarm setup # checks everything; downloads the caption model (~140MB)

whisper-cpp is optional. Without it, everything works, but live-stream clips render without captions.

Keep yt-dlp up to date (yt-dlp -U / brew upgrade yt-dlp). YouTube regularly breaks older versions. This is the #1 cause of failures.
