Context Engine tools (9, 1 write)
write = sends, deletes, buys or postsRead from the package source without running it. The installed server may list more.
branchwrite actionCreate a new branch or switch to an existing branch by name. If the branch already exists, it switches to it cleanly without modifying history.
checkoutRoll back context memory to a previous commit ID
commitRecord key architectural decision, bug fix, or findings into context graph
gather_contextMANDATORY ON NEW CHAT OR CONTEXT RESET: Reconstructs and retrieves bounded context memory (rolling summary and all preserved architectural facts) from previous sessions.
get_context_treeOutputs a highly structured, clean markdown visual text graph tree of all active branches, commits, and memory states straight to the chat view.
mergeMerge a feature context branch into target branch (defaults to main)
observe_turnAutonomous background observer: Records conversation turn history, runs dual-tier triage, and auto-commits compressed state every 5-10 turns.
override_memory_nodePower user tool to target an exact node in the SQLite history graph and forcibly overwrite its text content, completely pruning out incorrect details or debug junk.
recallRecall previous commits and context facts for a given query

Install Context Engine in Claude Code, Cursor or VS Code
Runs npx -y @sham-sundar-senthil-kumar/mcp-server on your machine. Read the scan report first; the gateway never runs local packages.
claude mcp add mcp-server -- npx -y @sham-sundar-senthil-kumar/mcp-server

⚡ Context Engine
Persistent memory for AI coding agents.
A local-first MCP server for carrying useful context, decisions, and project history across AI sessions.
Quick start · Features · Tools · How it works · Configuration · Contributing
The problem
AI coding sessions are powerful—but context often disappears between conversations. Decisions get repeated, project history gets lost, and developers spend time re-explaining the same codebase.
Context Engine gives compatible AI clients a persistent, queryable memory layer. It is designed to keep useful project context available across sessions while giving developers ways to inspect, search, organize, and correct that memory.
Think of it as a memory layer for your AI workflow—not another chat interface.
✨ Why Context Engine?
🧠 Persistent context Preserve important project knowledge so a new session can pick up where the previous one left off. 🔎 Targeted recall Search stored context and decisions instead of relying only on the current conversation. 🌿 Branches & history Separate experimental work, organize memory by branches, and support merge or rollback workflows. 🛠️ Human override Inspect the memory graph and correct or prune inaccurate stored information when needed. 🧹 Context curation Designed to prioritize durable decisions and useful context over transient debugging noise. 🔌 MCP integration Expose memory capabilities to AI applications through the Model Context Protocol.
🚀 Quick start
Requirements
- Node.js 18 or later
- An MCP-compatible client
- Any additional credentials required by the features you enable
Use with Claude Desktop
- Install Node.js if it is not already installed.
- Open Claude Desktop's MCP configuration file:
- macOS: ~/Library/Application Support/Claude/claudedesktopconfig.json
- Windows: %APPDATA%\Claude\claudedesktopconfig.json
- Add the following server entry:
{
"mcpServers": {
"context-engine": {
"command": "npx",
"args": [
"-y",
"-p",
"@sham-sundar-senthil-kumar/mcp-server@0.1.4",
"context-engine-mcp"
]
}
}
}If your configuration already has an mcpServers object, add only the "context-engine" entry inside it—don't overwrite your existing servers.
- Save the file and fully restart Claude Desktop.
- Open the MCP tools panel and check that Context Engine is available.
Tip: The first launch downloads the package through npm, so it may take a little longer than later launches.
Run it directly
You can also start the published server from a terminal:
npx -y -p @sham-sundar-senthil-kumar/mcp-server@0.1.4 context-engine-mcpShortened. The full README is on GitHub.
Nothing above is checked by us. What we check is on the safety report.
Context Engine: common questions
- Is Context Engine MCP server safe?
- Yes, by our scan: it is graded A (92/100). Read the Context Engine safety report
- How do I install Context Engine?
- It runs on your machine. Copy the Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code or Claude Desktop config from the install section.
- Does Context Engine need an API key?
- Not as far as the registry entry and our scan can tell: no credentials are declared or required.
- Is Context Engine maintained?
- The last commit was 13 days ago (2026-10-22). The latest release is v0.1.4.
- What can I use instead of Context Engine?
- Servers from other publishers that do the same job: Deja Vu MCP server, Memorix MCP server and Nautilus Compass Memory MCP server.
- How does Context Engine compare with other MCP servers?
- safety score 92/100 (higher than 95% of 48,255 servers); tools 9 (the typical server has 7); tools that change things 11% (typical: 0%. Fewer write tools means less an agent can break). Full comparison.
