Google Sheets Full tools (26, 10 write)

write = sends, deletes, buys or posts

Read from the package source without running it. The installed server may list more.

  • add_sheet

Add a new tab (sheet) to the spreadsheet. Returns the new sheetId.

  • append_values

Append rows to the end of a table. The range is used as the search hint.

  • auth_status

Report the current auth configuration. Two modes: 'oauth' (default, interactive user account) or 'service_account' (GOOGLE_APPLICATION_CREDENTIALS env set, headless). Returns mode, expected file paths, and which files are present. Use to debug setup problems.

  • batch_get_values

Read multiple A1 ranges in one call.

  • batch_updatewrite action

Run a structural batchUpdate on the spreadsheet (add/delete sheets, formatting, merges, freeze, conditional formatting, etc.). 'requests' is the Google Sheets API batchUpdate request array. See https://developers.google.com/sheets/api/reference/rest/v4/spreadsheets/request.

  • batch_update_valueswrite action

Update multiple A1 ranges in one call. Each item is { range, values }.

  • clear_values

Clear all values from one or more A1 ranges. Pass a single range or use ranges[].

  • create_spreadsheetwrite action

Create a new spreadsheet owned by the authenticated user. Returns the new spreadsheetId and URL.

  • delete_columnswrite action

    Delete columns in range [start_index, end_index) (0-based, half-open).

  • delete_rowswrite action

    Delete rows in range [start_index, end_index) (0-based, half-open).

  • delete_sheetwrite action

Delete a tab. Pass either sheet_id (gid) or sheet_name.

  • duplicate_sheet

Duplicate a tab within the same spreadsheet. Returns the new sheetId.

  • format_cells

Apply a CellFormat to a range. Pass a partial CellFormat object as 'format' (e.g. { backgroundColor: { red: 1 }, textFormat: { bold: true, fontSize: 12 }, horizontalAlignment: 'CENTER', numberFormat: { type: 'NUMBER', pattern: '#,##0.00' } }). Only the provided keys are updated. See https://developers.google.com/sheets/api/reference/rest/v4/spreadsheets/cells#CellFormat.

  • get_spreadsheet

Return spreadsheet metadata: title, list of sheets (tabs) with sheetId/title/index/gridProperties. Use this first when working on an unknown spreadsheet to discover tab names and gids. Set include_grid_data=true to also return cell data (large).

  • get_values

Read values from an A1 range (e.g. 'Sheet1!A1:D100'). Returns a 2D array of cell values.

  • insert_columnswrite action

Insert N empty columns starting at start_index (0-based).

  • insert_rowswrite action

    Insert N empty rows starting at start_index (0-based, half-open: rows [start_index, start_index+count) are inserted).

  • list_spreadsheets

List Google Sheets files in the user's Drive (most-recently-modified first). Returns id, name, modifiedTime, webViewLink. Use this when the user mentions a sheet by name without giving the ID.

  • merge_cells

Merge a cell range. merge_type controls how: MERGE_ALL (default), MERGE_COLUMNS (merge each column), MERGE_ROWS (merge each row).

  • rename_sheet

    Rename a tab.

  • resolve_url

Parse a Google Sheets URL and extract spreadsheetId and gid (tab id). Convenience helper so the user can paste a URL and the caller can grab the IDs.

  • run_sheets_scriptwrite action

Escape hatch: execute an arbitrary Node.js script with full Google Sheets/Drive access. Use when no dedicated tool covers the operation, or when multiple coordinated calls are needed. The script runs in a fresh Node process with these globals already prepared: `sheets` (Sheets v4 client), `drive` (Drive v3 client), `google` (googleapis namespace), `auth` (OAuth2Client), `spreadsheetId` (string). U

  • search_spreadsheets

Search spreadsheets in the user's Drive by name (substring, case-insensitive) and/or full-text content. At least one of `name_contains` or `full_text` is required. Use this when the user refers to a sheet by part of its title.

  • set_borders

    Set borders on a range. Pass per-side Border objects in 'borders' (top/bottom/left/right/innerHorizontal/innerVertical). Each Border = { style: 'SOLID'|'DOTTED'|'DASHED'|'SOLID_MEDIUM'|'SOLID_THICK'|'DOUBLE'|'NONE', color?: { red,green,blue,alpha } }.

  • unmerge_cells

Unmerge all merges within the given cell range.

  • update_valueswrite action

Write a 2D array of values into an A1 range. Use value_input_option='USER_ENTERED' to evaluate formulas, 'RAW' to write literal strings.

What the publisher says

From the Google Sheets Full repository's README, as published. We do not edit it. Read it on GitHub

mcp-google-sheets-full

The Google Sheets MCP server that can do anything the Sheets API can.

26 tools spanning read/write, structural batchUpdate, Drive search, and an escape hatch (runsheetsscript) that executes arbitrary Node.js code with sheets / drive / auth / spreadsheetId pre-injected. Two auth modes: OAuth (default, your own Google account, zero per-sheet setup) or service account (opt-in, for headless / CI).

Why this server

Most Google Sheets MCP servers expose a curated set of operations and stop there. If you need something they didn't anticipate (a particular conditional-format request, a multi-step migration, a Drive-side operation, an analysis-then-write workflow), you're stuck.

This server adds the missing primitive: runsheetsscript. Pass a snippet of Node code, get back the result. The Sheets v4 and Drive v3 clients are already authenticated and in scope. The temp file is always cleaned up.

spreadsheetId is always an explicit parameter of every tool — there is no hidden default.

Security model

runsheetsscript executes Node code on the machine where the MCP server runs, under your user account, against your OAuth token. The trust boundary is the same as any tool that lets Claude run code on your behalf (Bash, Edit, Write):

  • The script can only do what the OAuth scopes allow (Sheets + Drive). It cannot touch your other Google services, your filesystem outside tmpdir, or the network in ways the host node process can't.
  • Every script gets a fresh temp file in os.tmpdir(), executed via node, deleted on completion (success or failure).
  • There is a per-call timeout (default 2 min, max 10 min).
  • The token never leaves disk: the OAuth file lives in ~/.mcp-google-sheets/.

If you're not comfortable with code execution, simply don't call runsheetsscript — the other 25 tools cover the common cases without it.

For AI agents

If you're an AI agent (Claude Code, Cursor, etc.) installing or operating this server for a user, read AGENTS.md. It contains the canonical step-by-step setup flow, tool selection guide, common failure modes, and the trust/security expectations.

Setup (one-time)

1. Install

npm install -g mcp-google-sheets-full

This places an mcp-google-sheets-full executable on your PATH. To update: re-run the same command. To remove: npm uninstall -g mcp-google-sheets-full.

For development: clone the repo and run npm install && npm run build.

2. Choose an auth mode

Two ways to authenticate the server. Pick exactly one depending on how you will use it.

Selection is automatic: if the env var GOOGLEAPPLICATIONCREDENTIALS is set, the server uses service account mode; otherwise it uses OAuth mode.

OAuth setup
